18 April - a long day!

We woke at 7.30am and went down for breakfast at 8.30am. When I got ready, his family were already gone.. they went for breakfast. I was amazed at how early they were up!
.
After my self-declared hearty breakfast today, though Jason thought this wasn't his best breakfast spread. Well, to each its own! Perhaps like everyone said, I am easily contented!

.
Today should be considered the first day out for the family in Bangkok.
We walked out to take the BTS Skytrain at Chitlom Station. First on H's 'itinerary' today was to bring the family for Thai Massage! We alighted at the Chong Nonsi Station & walked abut 15 mins to destination - Healthland Thai Massage.
They have 3 branches in Bangkok & they should be quite popular as some of my colleagues went there every single day during my last trip.
.

I was never the 'Massage' or 'Spa' kinda person but I was seriously not bothered that I had to wait. All of them booked for Thai Massage. Jason was excited! He loves massages & I guess he couldn't wait! H insisted that I MUST at least get a foot massage done ... ok.... I did it... though reluctantly... I just don't like other people touching me & Jason knew that but I know under such circumstance, It was difficult to explain. I don't even go for medicure or pedicure here in Singapore let alone massages or spa.
.
The polite masseur led us to a lounge area to remove our footwear, the rest of them were led to rooms upstairs while I was being led to a very dark room with a few lazy-boy-lookalike couches. I pondered upon the reason for the room to be so DARK.. perhaps to prevent unpleasant sight of females lifting their legs? *ha ha*
.
At first I found it really ticklish.. then I didn't feel much. It was not something I would die for to do again or continue.. just not very 'me'.. But i really appreciated the gesture by H. Mine was a one-hour session whereas heirs was 2. I only waited for a short while before they all came down & shared their experience. I really didn't mind about the wait - Jason passed me his mobile phone for entertainment beforehand as he was too, worried I'd get bored waiting. Jason's mum found the massage painful yet ticklish.. so I dare conclude MEN enjoy massages better.
.
From Healthland, we took separate cabs to Silom for a much anticipated Thai lunch. Cab fares in Bangkok are rather cheap, so Jason paid 100baht no matter what the meter fare was.. so for cabbies who picked us up - GOOD FOR YOU! Our meter fares for the whole trip ranged between 40baht to 60baht usually & they got to keep the change.
.
H brought us to a small restaurant near Liberty Square in Soi Convent, Silom, named BUA RESTAURANT for thai food. Soi Convent looked like, to me, a very mini Siglap where many rows of small & interesting cafes & restaurants were. Silom is also famous for its red-light entertainment & nightlife called 'Patpong' & it is also at Patpong where the popular Silom Night Market is situated.
.
Bits & pieces of the restaurant & food we ordered.

It was a small, not luxuriously-decorated place.. but didn't matter much, the FOOD was yummy!
.
First up was Pomelo Salad! H highly recommended it to us! I forgotten to snap pics of the plates when they were served as I was kind of excited I guessed.. so, all I have gotten were really bits & pieces.

We had Tom Yum Soup, Spicy Kangkong, Rice Cake with Curry, Shrimp Cakes, Fried Eggs! It was a yummy lunch. Thai food are just so yummy! & it didn't cost more than S$40 for the whole meal for 6.
.

After lunch, we all head to Siam Square for the much-awaited shopping for, at the very least, mum & younger brother. In Siam Square, they managed to buy a couple of things though we didn't stay very long due to bad weather. We saw the gloomy sky & quickly made our way into the huge malls like Siam Center & Siam Paragon before we got wet. We really did alot of walking & we also perspire alot which felt good for me. The weather was also very hot.

When we were done walking at Siam area, we strolled along the elevated walkways & went to Central World. Along the way, we down nice & refreshing drinks from stalls in the BTS station ... I got my coconut juice for 80 baht & it came in a nice chic blue color.. different jiuces came in different-colored bottles! *interesting*

At Central World, everyone got a few more stuff then we started walking back to the Apartment. I was glad I knew what I needed so I didn't have to overspend or shop unnecessarily. I stocked up my daily contact lens.

Along the way, H & Jason decided to drop by to continue shopping in Central Chitlom near our apartment, so the rest of them headed back to the apartment already grasping for breath...... while the 3 of us walked around Central Chitlom for at least another 3 hours.

.

By the time we got back to the apartment, his parents & K had already stole a nap & a peaceful good rest.

.

We took a quick shower & headed out for dinner at Chinatown! YEAH! I have not been to Chinatown though I have visited Bangkok a million times.

.

We took cabs & finally arrived for dinner at about 8pm. WOW! Chinatown was booming with people! It was really like a CHINATOWN! *heehee* We went to a very interesting Seafood Restaurant called T&K Seafood.

I somehow knew no matter what I'd write, I'd not be able to describe this interestingly-cramp restaurant but I'm going to try!.. The restaurant's main entrance was actually the food preparation area, they had no kitchen! I hope you could visualise from the pics the cramp & stuffy entrance area.. though noisy with cooks & servers blocking the entrance, the restaurant was booming with customers!
.
They have indoor & outdoor seating. The outdoor tables were by the roadside. WOW! I was really amazed at how good the business was! The noisy server & 'captain' led us upstairs.. YES they occupied at least 4 storey BUT each storey was as small as a HDB bedroom! As I was going up, I even saw a 'half-level' where customers & servers could only bend down to walk in & must sit on the floor & could not stand up due to the ceiling level, so naturally, this level was crowded with the Caucasians! I could not snap a picture as the stairway was small & cramp & if I were to stop to take a picture, the long line of customers & servers behind me would probably screamed! They used this same flight of 'skinny' stairs to serve food as well.
.
We sat on the 3 level & to my amazement, there was another food preparation area on the small balcony outside. It was too small I could not manoeuvre to take a picture. They were also using the clever old-fashioned method of a manual-dumb-waiter to transport food up & down. Manual? What I meant was, they tied a tray or basket to the balcony outside our level & lower the tray to the food preparation downstairs to get the food up. Of course some were served by the server sending the food up or down personally through the stairs. Notice here how cramp the room & stairs were.. I even wondered if the balcony or stairway would collapse... Each level though small, they housed about 20 customers - yes, I was counting!
.
We had really yummy food like steam fish, bbq squids, prawns, vegetables, crabs cooked in 2 ways, fish maw soup..

The steam fish I especially loved. It was like the usually steam fish we eat at home but this came with a lot of soup-like gravy & tasted sour & just alittle spicy! It really whet our appetite! The squids were also fresh & bbq without seasoning & you could just taste the freshness. Crab was special, for a non-crab-eater like me, this one was done with the crab-meat already scrap out of the poor crab, seasoned & baked in the crab's shell. YUMMY!!! I controlled myself really hard on the food! I didn't want to screw up my diet plan for a few days of fun - after all, i had already put in 3 months of effort & just saw results.
.

After such sumptuous dinner, we saved our stomach for dessert! H said he would bring us for birds' nests! Though I was not a fan of birds' nests, I was intrigued by where it was sold!
As we approached this stall a turn away from T&K Seafood, a man quickly set the make-shift tables. You really wouldn't notice the stall was there if you were not there specially! Jason doesn't eat such dessert so he opted out. I had a bowl of the cold birds' nests. Tasted really like any other birds' nests but I was very thrilled at having it by the roadside. H told us this vendor lady was well-marketed on magazines as well as newspapers. True enough, there were clippings of her stuck in her little cart. She must be well-to-do -> each bowl costs 300baht. That explained why there was a man sitting silently behind the stall.. perhaps, her body guard!
.
H suggested Silom Night Market as the next destination, also to show the famous Patpong to us. We hopped into a cab again. I have never taken so many taxis in Bangkok ever! It was also my first time in the night market. Just like any other night market, this one was engulfed by many clubs with men & women walking around to try to sell you 'Live Show Live Show!'! We could also see through some of the clubs & there were women dancing on the bar top in their skimpy little bikinis. Interesting place!
.
H brought me to Naraya though I merely mentioned once, a popular fabric bags stores where women, especially Japanese women go crazy. Indeed! Those who were inside were not there to buy 1 or 2 items, they had with them like a few basketful of items at the cashier counter.
.
Like Shumin told me, I had wanted to get their signature bag for future use when we have to bring milk-bottles, diapers etc.. but then I think again, I'd better not get them yet, my room is just so cramp now at home I won't have storage place. SO I only bought 1 shoulder bag in their signature design for 250baht.
.
It was back to the apartment after that. What a long day, I could barely feel my legs. No doubt I had a really wonderful time visiting so many places I have never been!
